about

Tom Munnelly collected several songs, including 'Old Ballymoe', from Mick Connors, son of Jim Connors, in Wexford in 1974. Connors had a very musical tone with a note of humour throughout. 'Old Ballymoe' has Roud no. 10687 and describes an unsuccessful courtship in Roscommon. Several lengthier versions of this song can also be found in the Munnelly Collection. However, the brevity of this version presents a certain shock factor which enticed me to sing it myself. The recording of Mick Connors singing 'Old Ballymoe' can be found in the Sound Archive of the National Folklore Collection with the tape number TM331/A/3.
