about

This track was inspired by the music of the Ennis family, the Dunshaughlin Dawn Chorus of May 2020, Pieta House's event Darkness Into Light, master Transylvanian fiddler Iosif Ghemant (bird sounds), and, of course, Neillidh Boyle (bird sounds) and Patrick Kelly (fiddle tuning).

The Morning Thrush was composed ca. 1916 by Séamus Ennis’ father, James Ennis, and was inspired by the tune that a thrush would sing to him each morning. Séamus introduces and plays his father's tune here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=lLe9etQ0iwQ . I learnt the tune in my teens from my fiddle teacher Liam O' Connor.

All sounds were created by the fiddle. More information on this piece can be found on my YouTube channel: www.youtube.com/channel/UCvxMjbRMZA29jrVKq5oo1Cw
