about

'Old Brobston Brown' is a nonsense song concerning a worn-out clown who becomes a publican, a married man and a father but just can't seem to give up his old ways! The singer, Patsy Johnston, was at the great age of ninety-one when Tom Munnelly recorded several songs from him in 1971. Listening to Munnelly's recordings of Patsy is akin to taking a journey back in time to a very different Ireland. 'Old Brobston Brown' has Roud no. 3354 and Patsy's singing of it can be found in the Sound Archive of the National Folklore Collection with the tape number TM0009/A/2.
