about

Michael Keaney was recorded at the age of sixty-seven by Tom Munnelly in the collector's car in 1972. The song's beautiful air and familiar opening theme of emigration lends to the humour depicted throughout in which a Cockney man accuses Paddy of sharing a mother with the Cockney's 'ass'. The song has Roud no. 3078 and the recording of Keaney's singing can be found in the Sound Archive of the National Folklore Collection with the tape number TM41/B/3.
