about

Micho Russell, 1915-1994, was born into a family full of traditional music and folklore in Doonagore, County Clare. He was a master of flute, whistle and voice. Micho got this interesting song from the singing of his father, Austin Russell. This song reads more like a wonder tale than a song, however, it is cut short by an abrupt and shocking end. Perhaps, it is a snippet of a larger song that was popular during his father's time or it could even be a composition of his father's. The recording of Micho's singing can be found in the Sound Archive of the National Folklore Collection with the tape number TM0036/A.
